Donations Following Fire

By KWGS News

Tulsa, OK – The Women in Recovery program, managed by Family & Children's Services, is accepting donations for the 10 women affected by a Tuesday afternoon fire that destroyed their group home. The women are in need of basic living items, including clothes and toiletries, as well as larger items like furniture.

Those wishing to donate small items can drop them off at the Family & Children's Services office located at 2325 S. Harvard Ave. Large donations can be made by calling (918) 991-6200. Vernon Long, long-time Family & Children's Services supporter, is donating warehouse space to store larger items while alternative housing arrangements are being made.

"The support the women are providing each other and receiving from the program and partners is keeping them strong and on their continuing road of recovery and change," said Mimi Tarrasch, director of the WIR program. "I'm confident they will actively give back to the Tulsa community after witnessing the true generous spirit of others."

The women were not at the home when the fire occurred.

WIR is an alternative program to incarceration for nonviolent female offenders with alcohol and drug addictions in Tulsa County. The homes offer a safe haven for transitioning into a better, more stable life.
