Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. AG helps raise domestic violence awareness

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt will help usher in Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of events designed to raise awareness of domestic violence and its tragic consequences.

Pruitt says domestic violence is a serious crime that affects thousands of Oklahoma families each year. He says Oklahomans must find new ways to prevent and end the cycle of violence.

Activities will kick off on Wednesday with the lighting of the Capitol Dome. On Thursday, Pruitt will speak at a State Capitol news conference with other advocates for domestic violence victims.

Pruitt says Oklahoma ranks 11th in the nation for the number of women killed by men. Last year, there were more than 25,000 domestic violence calls to law enforcement agencies and 75 deaths.
