Deployment Ceremony Set for Oklahoma Guard Soldier

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — A deployment ceremony is scheduled in McAlester for a group of more than 100 Oklahoma National Guard soldiers who are heading to Afghanistan.

The ceremony for the 1245th Transportation Company is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the McAlester Armed Forces Reserve Center, located near the ammunition plant.

Based in McAlester, the 1245th is a medium-truck company whose members are specifically trained in loading pallets.

They will leave Oklahoma for pre-deployment training at Fort Hood, Texas, and then deploy to Afghanistan in December. While in Afghanistan, the group will be responsible for transporting supplies and providing security for themselves and for civilian contractors.

The company previously deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2008.
