Delaware County Break-Out: UPDATE

By AP

Jay, OK – Okla inmate killed himself after escaping jail

JAY, Okla. (AP) The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says one of two Delaware County inmates who escaped custody after beating two jailers fatally shot himself as sheriff's deputies closed in on him.

The OSBI said Thursday officers encountered Devin Martin and Kyle Sutton at a roadblock on U.S. 59 late Wednesday. They were driving a vehicle stolen from one of the jailers that had a firearm inside.

Officers exchanged gunfire with pair and Martin was grazed.

Officials say after the vehicle stopped, Martin said he wasn't going to prison and shot himself in the head. Sutton was captured.

The men escaped after striking the jailers with a metal pipe from a TV stand as the jailers served dinner inside a cell.
