DA Candidate Pushes Law Expanding Impact Statements

State of Oklahoma

Tulsa County District Attorney Candidate Fred Jordan is using his current position in the state legislature to expand who would be allowed to give a victim impact statement in a criminal case.

Under legislation passed today by the state house the definition of immediate family would be expanded.

FRED JORDAN: " What this bill does is modify the Oklahoma Victim's Rights Act to expand the definition of immediate family to include birth, adoption parents, grand parents or step parents. It would expand what type of family members are able to make a witness victim statement so they can better represent their family.

The bill passed 85-to-1. Jordan is one of three Republicans to file for the seat being vacated by Tim Harris. Harris opted not to seek re-election
