Bixby, OK – The Creek Nation appears to be moving forward with plans to construct a bridge connecting Jenks and Bixby with South Tulsa. The proposed bridge would span the Arkansas River opening the South County area to development. Right now the nearest bridges across the river are at Memorial Drive in Bixby and at 96th Street in Jenks.

The tribe filed deeds to three parcels of land yesterday with the Tulsa County Clerk's office. The land is to the south of 121st Street and east of the dead-end of Yale Avenue.

A similar plan by the city of Jenks to build a toll bridge met stiff opposition from neighbors. The state supreme court ruled Jenks could not build the bridge without Tulsa's cooperation. Tulsa leaders say major infrastructure improvements would be required to handle the increased traffic load.
