Tulsa, Oklahoma – Today on ST, we listen back to an interview from November, when we spoke by phone with Stephanie Smith, a curator at the Smart Museum of the University of Chicago. Smith is the main architect and exponent of an interesting exhibit now on view at Philbrook called "Adaptation," which will close on Sunday the 9th. As Smith tells us, the process of adaptation has forever been a facet of the creative process --- all manner of artists have always confronted issues like influence, inspiration, and imitation --- and this particular show considers the use of adaptation in the work of some noted video artists. In "Adaptation," we find video installations by Guy Ben-Ner, Arturo Herrera, Catherine Sullivan, and Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation. (You'll find further details at philbrook.org.)
