Oklahoma City, OK – Seat belt usage increases in Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State officials say more Oklahomans are wearing seat belts this year than in 2009.
The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office says a 2010 study found that usage in combined types of motor vehicles has increased 1.7 percent since last year, from 84.2 percent to 85.9 percent.
Officials say usage in pickup trucks also increased by 1.7 percent, jumping from 76.7 percent to 78.4 percent.
In Tulsa County, the study showed a 2.6 percent decrease in combined seat belt usage and a 4.7 percent decline in seat belt use in pickup trucks.
Highway office officials say the statistics for pickup trucks were released separately because seat belt use in that type of vehicle tends to be lower in Oklahoma.
