Child Abuse Case

By AP

Undated – Okla. social workers face hard task in abuse case

UNDATED (AP) Oklahoma social workers are already facing a difficult task as they work with nine children taken from a bug-infested home near Poteau.

Criminal neglect charges are pending against their parents, and the father faces three sexual abuse counts. The children were taken into state custody this month. Officials are trying to keep them together or somehow connected with each other while the parents are jailed.

Privacy laws prevent the state from saying what happened to the children. A Department of Human Services spokeswoman says there is always the fear that moving kids into foster homes or a shelter can be upsetting.

If the parents are convicted, a judge may be asked to consider terminating parental rights.
