Checotah Man Dies in Oklahoma Plane Crash

CHECOTAH, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 42-year-old Checotah man has been killed when the home-built aircraft he was piloting crashed.

The OHP says Douglas Hyer was dead at the scene about two-and-a-half miles west of Checotah in eastern McIntosh County.

Troopers say a witness reported seeing the plane turn to the right then nose dive into the ground just after 4 p.m. Saturday.

The OHP says Hyer was flying a Titan Tornado II — a one-person aircraft that is built from a kit.
