A Chat with the Celebrated Classical Pianist Joseph Kalichstein
By Rich Fisher
Tulsa, OK – On today's ST, we speak with Joseph Kalichstein, the renowned Israeli-born American classical pianist who will soon perform here in our city as part of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio. Chamber Music Tulsa will present this trio --- which has long been considered "chamber music royalty," and which debuted at President Carter's inauguration in 1977 --- on Sunday afternoon (the 6th) at 3pm in the Williams Theatre of the Tulsa PAC. On the program will be music by Beethoven, Zwilich, and Tchaikovsky. A seasoned master at performing all aspects of the Western classical repertoire, Kalichstein is also a professor at the Juilliard School in New York City. As he tells us on today's show, much of what constitutes being a fine musician --- whether as a solo artist or in a group setting --- comes down to listening. Listening to yourself, that is, and to others.
