Oklahoma City, OK – Okla judge says charter school can get state funds
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma County judge has ruled that the state Department of Education must provide what would be the state's first virtual charter school with a district code that will allow it to receive public funding.
But District Judge Patricia Parrish also ruled Monday that students who wanted open transfers to Epic One on One Charter School should have applied by the end of April. Epic's founder, David Chaney, says that means it's not likely the school will be able to open for this academic year.
Parrish ruled that University of Central Oklahoma had a signed contract to sponsor the school, although the governing board that oversees UCO never approved the document. The contract was signed by UCO's executive vice president.
The state Department of Education was named as a defendant in the lawsuit, but UCO was not.
