Tulsa, OK – Rape charge against ex-ME's investigator dropped

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A court has dismissed a rape charge that was filed last year in Tulsa County against the former chief investigator for the state medical examiner's office.

Television station KOTV reported that the first-degree charge against Kevin Rowland was dismissed Wednesday.

Rowland was charged in August 2009 in Tulsa County District Court with four counts of sexual battery. In February 2010, one of those charges was amended to upgrade it to first-degree rape. The other three sexual battery charges against Rowland in Tulsa County were dismissed at the request of the state on April 20, 2010.

Rowland was acquitted of sexual battery charges in May 2010 in Oklahoma County.

Rowland worked for the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Officer for 20 years before he resigned in March 2009 citing job stress.
