Chamber Music from the OK Mozart Festival on Performance Oklahoma

Performance Oklahoma presents editions 7 & 8 of the 2012 OK Mozart Chamber Music Broadcast Series!  In the first hour violist Paul Neubauer joins pianist Orion Weiss to play the Marchenbilder Op 113 and the Romance Op 94 No. 2 by Robert Schumann, offering the audience a richly hued glimpse into the composer as child and genius and kicking off the Festival’s morning concert series.  Mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and pianist Orion Weiss join Paul to present songs by Sergei Rachmaninov,  written at various points in his career and full of some of his most deeply felt and masterful music.  And violist Andy Lin shares his second passion, the Chinese erhu and enchants the audience with his beautiful and virtuosic performances of two works for the 500 year old traditional instrument.

And in the second hour, cellist Peter Wiley and pianist Anna Polonsky offer the 12 Variations on a theme from the Magic Flute by Ludwig van Beethoven, one of four sets of variations celebrating his affection for Mozart’s music.  And duo pianists Orion Weiss and Anna Polonsky in turn offer an homage to Beethoven with the Variations on an original theme by Franz Schubert.  Baritone Kelly Markgraf, and violist Paul Neubauer join Anna to present songs by Bernard Molique and John Larchet and we’ll hear the third work offered by Andy Lin on the erhu.

Tune in at 8 Saturday evening on Classical 88.7-1.
