Tulsa, OK – Tulsa mayoral candidate withdraws from race
TULSA, Okla. (AP) A Tulsa police officer has withdrawn his name as a candidate for mayor of the city.
Officer Cleon Burrell says he wasn't aware that the city's employee manual prohibits current employees from running for a city office.
Burrell says he could quit but still has bills to pay. His name will remain on the ballot because the deadline for removing it has passed.
Burrell's withdrawal leaves 18 candidates in the race to succeed Mayor Kathy Taylor who is not running for re-election.
