(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Gannet Co. Inc. says it has closed its call center in Tulsa as it moves work to call centers in South Carolina and Kentucky.

Gannett spokeswoman Robin Pence told the Tulsa World that the call center was closed Thursday. The McLean, Va.-based company opened the Consumer Solution Center in Tulsa in 2007.

The company had about 500 employees in Tulsa in 2008. It was not immediately known how many employees the company currently had in Tulsa.

Phone calls to Gannett by The Associated Press seeking comment on Saturday were not immediately returned.

Gannett is the largest newspaper publisher in the country. Its website shows it owns 86 newspapers and 23 television stations.
