Boxing Death Under Review

By AP

Tulsa, OK – Witness: Victim in boxing event looked 'panicked'

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A man who attended an unsanctioned boxing match in Tulsa says a former football player who died after a fight looked "very panicked."

Dwayllen Lyles tells the Tulsa World that he saw former University of Tulsa football player George Clinkscale after a match Wednesday at an area church. Lyles says he didn't see Clinkscale in the ring, but watched him as he walked by holding his shoulder.

Joe Miller, executive director of the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission, says the event was held illegally. Lyles describes it as a "backyard brawl, just with a little smoke and music."

Clinkscale was reported to be cramping and complaining of dehydration. He died later Wednesday at a Tulsa hospital.

A cause of death may not be known for several weeks.
