Boston runners to compete in OKC Memorial Marathon

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Michael Smith was waiting near the finish line of the Boston Marathon when a pair of bombs went off and stopped his wife from completing the race.

On Sunday, Chau Smith will get a chance to finish what she started in Boston when she competes in the 13th annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.

The Smiths, of Oak Grove, Mo., are among several runners competing in the Memorial Marathon who did not complete the April 15 marathon in Boston. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, sponsor of the Memorial Marathon, waived the registration fee for Boston marathoners who were unable to complete the race due to the bombing.

Organizers say additional security will be in place for this year's Memorial Marathon. About 23,000 runners are expected on the 26.2-mile course.
