Boren Holds Town Halls

Dan Boren

By Associated Press

Muskogee, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma's lone Democratic congressman played the role of referee Tuesday at spirited town-hall meetings in eastern Oklahoma.

Hundreds of people, some waving American flags and holding signs depicting President Obama as the Joker character from the Batman film, shouted and yelled over each other during much of what was supposed to be a question-and-answer session in Muskogee.

Many said they were angry at the health care reform bill being considered by lawmakers.

But Boren, a fiscally conservative Democrat, reminded residents several times that he opposes any law that would lead to government-run health care system. He also pledged Tuesday that if a health care bill passes, he would take that plan, even if the plan for federal lawmakers might be better.
