Bob Shank On Mountain Stage

Brian Blauser
/
Mountain Stage

A resident of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., Bob Shank has appeared on Mountain Stage multiple times, going back to the early 1980s, when he was a member of the Americana group Hickory Wind. He also appeared in 2007 with the instrumental band Freeman, Bloom & Shank. But it's unlikely that he ever appeared under such short notice — Shank graciously joined the lineup only hours before show time, when another artist canceled because of illness.

A renowned songwriter, banjo and hammered dulcimer player, Shank plays three songs from his latest record, Don't Worry About the Moon. He begins with "Song with an Eye in the Middle," inspired by a song he once heard where "I" was every other word. The ethereal title cut, "Don't Worry About the Moon," is played entirely on hammered dulcimer.

Shank is followed by the Mountain Stage band's Julie Adams, who takes on the Grace Potter song "Toothbrush and My Table."
