BBC World Service Celebrates 80th Birthday

On Wednesday the 29th of February, the BBC World Service celebrates its 80th birthday by opening its doors. You'll be treated to an unprecedented behind the scenes access as part of a special day of live programming to mark the BBC's 80th birthday.

Pooneh Ghodoosi (BBC Persian) and Ros Atkins (BBC Global News English) are the anchors for the day. Highlights from the day will include a special audience with Sir David Attenborough, former Chancellor of the Chequer, Alistair Darling, on World Business Report, and The Strand – the global arts programme – will be edited by artist and music producer William Orbit.

Plus, BBC World Service’s daily morning editorial meeting, which normally takes place behind closed doors, will be broadcast live for the first time. The open courtyard of Bush House will host many of the programmes that day. Flagship programmes such as Newshour and World Have your Say will invite audiences to join a conversation about international broadcasting and the future priorities of the BBC World Service.

The full celebration can only be heard by listening to a HD Radio.
