Arrest Made in Rape of Union High School Student

Tulsa Police have made an arrest in the rape of a Union High School student who was attacked while she walked to school early last Wednesday morning.

Deputy Chief Dennis Larsen said it took a lot of effort, but detectives were motivated to catch the suspect.

"By the nature of that assault, we knew this person was prone to commit violent acts in the future just by the details of that assault," Larsen said. "So we had focused in on making — identifying and apprehending that person, and it took about five or six days of really, really good detective work."

The suspect was arrested this morning after a brief chase. He's also connected to a recent string of coffee shop robberies. Larsen said he should be booked by 5 p.m.

The 18-year-old victim was attacked shortly before 8 a.m. as she walked on 91st Street between Sheridan and Memorial.

Union increased patrols around the high school in response to the incident. Larsen said TPD is excited to have made the arrest.

"Very excited, because we had fielded calls as we should have been, always do, from concerned parents about their kids' safety going to and from school."
