A major expansion planned for the River Sprit Casino at 81st and Riverside puts renewed focus on river development.
Vision 2 and its promised Arkansas River low-water dams are long gone, but Mayor Bartlett says some alternative plans are in the works.
One of them is for “lowering the level of the sand in the river, which will provide, essentially, a large lake.”
“We’ll have water in the river,” Bartlett said.
“That will show everybody what it looks like,” he said, “and then I believe that once that is realized, then a dam will be forthcoming.”
He says the plan is in the early stages, but that the dredged sand could be sold to offset the project’s costs.
