Tulsa, OK – On today's show, we're discussing the Civil War, particularly certain questions related to Southern secession. Our guest is the award-winning historian William Freehling, who's a Senior Fellow at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities as well as the Singletary Professor of the Humanities Emeritus at the University of Kentucky. Freehling will deliver the University of Tulsa's 2011 Mary F. Barnard Lecture in the Allen Chapman Activities Center (on the TU campus) on Monday the 26th at 7pm. A book signing and reception will follow his lecture, which is entitled "Excruciating Labor: How Secessionists Destroyed the Union." Freehling's books include "The Road to Disunion" and "Showdown in Virginia: The 1861 Convention and the Fate of the Union."
