3.9 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded in Edmond

Kids Space Museum

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.9-magnitude earthquake has been recorded in the Lake Arcadia area in Edmond.

Police say there are no reports of damage or injury but that there were several calls from people who felt the quake.

The quake was recorded at 8:17 a.m. Wednesday in the Oklahoma City suburb and comes after a series of smaller quakes ranging from magnitude 2.1 to 2.9 were recorded overnight in the Stillwater area about 50 miles to the north.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not likely from earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
