2 Die in Head-on Collision in Mayes County

LOCUST GROVE, Okla. (AP) — Two people are dead after a collision near Locust Grove in Mayes County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the collision happened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on State Highway 82 about four miles south of Locust Grove.

A car driven by a 47-year-old Tahlequah man was driving southbound on Highway 82 when the driver tried to pass another vehicle turning right and struck a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Benjamin M. Morgan, of Peggs, head on. Morgan was pinned for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes at the scene and died from massive injuries. A passenger, 43-year-old Evelyn M. Hayes, of Peggs, was pinned for about 90 minutes and also died at the scene.

A second passenger was transported to a Tulsa hospital where he was treated and released.
