Behind the Mics
Alan Lambert
Alan Lambert has been a Tulsa area broadcaster for more than 52 years. He began his career while still a 16-year-old junior at Will Rogers High school. He worked as an on-air DJ at what was to become KMOD (97.5 fm) and KAKC (1300 am).
Later, as a 19-year-old radio program director for 1270 am while attending the University of Tulsa, he moved to the next chapter of his on-air life. In 1964, he joined KVOO television and radio. After briefly working on the television production crew, he was hired as part of the TV announcing staff at Channel 2 (while serving as a part-time DJ upstairs at 1170 radio.) In 1966, he was offered a chance to produce and serve as the air personality for his own daily children’s television show. He portrayed a fantasy astronaut, Captain Alan. His spaceship sidekick was a robot named Oom-A-Gog. That television act lasted for nearly three years.
Next, after serving several years as a television weathercaster for Tulsa’s Channel 2 and anchoring the evening radio news for KVOO Radio, he became assistant news director for the combined department. In 1971, Alan became news director for 50-thousand watt Big Country, KVOO (1170 am). He held that position for 20 years. At the same time, he worked in the weather department of Tulsa’s Channel 8 with Travis Meyer in 1986. KVOO-FM was added to his radio company, First Stuart Corporation in 1987. He was employed by KVOO television and/or radio for 27 years.
