New Washinton Coach

Tulsa,OK – Darrell Hall is the new coach of Booker T. Washington High School. Hall, previously the head football coach of the Star Spencer Bobcats in Oklahoma City, led his team to a 4A state title last season.

"He's been very successful at Star Spencer, where he's been the head coach for over a half a decade," said Dr. Stephanie Spring, the district's athletic director. "He won the state championship there this year and he'll bring a competitive attitude and the expectation of winning to BTW. I look forward to great things to come."

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) While state lawmakers work on bills ranging from abortion to an opt-out of a new federal health care plan what many say they want is a hand in the roughly $6 billion state budget.

But the work is taking place among a handful of state leaders and mostly behind closed doors as the state faces an estimated $1.2 billion shortfall.

Overtime Costs

Tulsa, OK – TULSA, Okla. (AP) A late December snowstorm across Oklahoma resulted in nearly $706,000 in overtime pay to state Department of Transportation workers in January.

The pay reported by the Office of State Finance led all state agencies in overtime although the Department of Corrections had more overtime hours worked.

Fairview, OK – FAIRVIEW, Okla. (AP) Fairview Police Chief Robert Banks is being investigated by the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training. CLEET assistant director of operations Steve Emmons says the investigation concerns the treatment of a person in a class Banks taught. Banks says he knows nothing about it.

Oklahoma City, OK – In light of recent financial scandals at state schools, a House committee unanimously voted today to improve oversight of school audits.

Senate Bill 2034, by Rep. Dan Sullivan, would place the Office of the State Auditor and Inspector in charge of reviewing school district audits.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Police say two bodies have been found near a car that belongs to a man charged with killing his estranged wife and kidnapping her 7-year-old daughter. Officers fear one of the bodies may be that of the young girl.

New IT Director

Oklahoma City, OK – Henry names Pettit to technology post

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Brad Henry has named Alex Pettit as Oklahoma's first chief information officer.

Henry announced the appointment on Friday. He says Pettit, a technology consultant in Denton, Texas, and a project manager for Brown University, will begin his duties on April 5.

A law passed by the Legislature last year authorized the governor to appoint a chief information officer to oversee state computer information and technology operations.

Salt Lake City, UT – Ruling links CIA to OKC bombing prosecution

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal judge has turned down a Utah attorney's request for access to secret CIA documents about the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in a ruling that links the agency to the prosecution of Timothy McVeigh.

A decision handed down Friday by U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups in Salt Lake City rejected attorney Jesse Trentadue's Freedom of Information Act request for 12 CIA documents. The judge says they are legally exempt from disclosure.
