The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission on Wednesday released a county-by-county breakdown of the state's unemployment data. The report shows Latimer County at 11.6 percent and McCurtain County at 11.5 percent had the highest rates in the state. All three counties are in southeast Oklahoma.
Tulsa, OK – House panel approves changes to workers' comp
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A bill to overhaul the state's workers' compensation system has cleared a House committee.
The Senate bill approved Wednesday by the House Economic Development and Financial Services Committee would reduce the number of judges on the Workers' Compensation Court and limit them to one term. It also requires Senate confirmation for new judges.
Muskogee, OK – 21-year-old re-elected as mayor of Oklahoma town
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) A 21-year-old college student has been elected to a second term as mayor of Muskogee, avoiding a runoff in a four-person race.
John Tyler Hammons won 51.4 percent of the vote on Tuesday in the town of about 38,000 people in eastern Oklahoma. Among those he beat was Bob Coburn, the cousin of U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, who received 29.4 percent of the vote. Coburn missed forcing a runoff election by 130 votes.
