Students Talk to Astronaut

Kingston, Okla. – Every so often, the astronauts aboard the International Space Station contact students on Earth, and tomorrow, they will be talking to students from Oklahoma.

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station coordinates contacts and provides equipment both on the station and at sites on Earth for conversations between student groups and the astronauts.

Thieves Target Tulsa Public Schools

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Public School District is asking for the public's help in stopping thieves from stealing or damaging valuable air conditioning equipment at Tulsa schools.
"They're just killing us out there," said Gary Rudick, the chief of TPS' campus police department.

Inmate Walks Away

Tulsa, OK – 34-year-old Okla. inmate walks away from work site

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Authorities say a 34-year-old Muskogee County inmate has escaped after walking away from a work site.

The inmate, Shannon D. Smith, escaped about 12:30 p.m. Monday. He was being held at the Muskogee County Work Center, which is a pre-release center for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Work Center employee Angie Pigeon says Smith "had been a model inmate" before his escape.

Tulsa, OK – Indicted for embezzlement and bribery, former Skiatook school superintendent Gary Johnson did not enter a plea this morning in Tulsa District Court. He'll be back next month when Judge Jefferson Sellers will set a preliminary hearing date.

Johnson was indicted by a grand jury looking into wasteful spending practices in the Skiatook School District.

Forum Set For Enid

En id, OK – Candidates for governor set for Enid forum

ENID, Okla. (AP) All six candidates for Oklahoma governor are expected to participate in a gubernatorial forum in Enid.

The nonpartisan, public policy group The Oklahoma Academy will host the forum at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Autry Technology Center in Enid. It's one of several forums hosted by the group, but the first for which all six candidates are scheduled to attend.

Oklahoma City, OK – OSBI director leaving to lead new UCO school

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) The director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is leaving that agency after 15 years to lead a new criminal justice school at the University of Central Oklahoma.

DeWade Langley announced his resignation in an e-mail to OSBI employees sent Tuesday, the same day UCO announced his appointment. Langley gave no effective date for his resignation and a news release from UCO did not include his starting date at the Edmond university.
