Muskogee, OK – Police continue search for man in fatal shooting

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Muskogee police are continuing their investigation into a double shooting that left one person dead and another wounded.

Police Cpl. Pedro Zardeneta told the Muskogee Phoenix that an arrest warrant was issued for a 17-year-old male after officers found two men with gunshot wounds at a residence around 1 p.m. Monday.

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. AG sues over children's home closure

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Attorney General Drew Edmondson has asked a Kay County judge to block the planned closure of a children's home in Ponca City that would displace 44 children just days after Christmas.

Edmondson on Tuesday sought a temporary restraining order and injunction to stop the Dec. 31 closure of the American Legion Children's Home and the January 2011 auction of the home's assets.

New OJA Facilities Coming

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. juvenile affairs agency to build new centers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs has announced a contract to build new centers in Ada and Tecumseh.

The agency said Tuesday it will sign a contract Dec. 6 with Ada Youth Academy Authority to build and operate a 144-bed youth academy. The Tulsa World reports the academy is expected to begin operating in mid-2012.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for governor, has applied for a vacant seat on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

Askins is one of 19 people who submitted applications to the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Commission for the seat left vacant by the Oct. 11 death of Justice Marian Opala at the age of 89. Applications for the position were due by Friday.

Two Shot at Muskogee

Muskogee, OK – Muskogee police seek teen who shot 2, killing 1

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Police at Muskogee say they're looking for a 17-year-old who shot two men, killing one of them and sending the other to a hospital.

Authorities say Deontee (dee-ON'-tay) Eugene Newton is the object of a manhunt after the shooting Monday afternoon.

Officers said the two men had just gotten out of a car when they were shot.

Police said they thought Newton had fled into a nearby house, but he could not be found inside the home.

Tulsa, OK – Hearing set for man charged in triple slaying

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7 in Tulsa for a man charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of three people at a Tulsa motel.

The hearing was set Monday during a court appearance for 19-year-old Dale Curtis Carr.

Judge Dawn Moody entered a not guilty plea for Carr and appointed the Tulsa County Public Defender's Office to represent him.
