Home Plate Moved

Home plate is installed at the new downtown baseball stadium.

Tulsa, OK – Home plate was air-lifted, via a helicopter, from the old Driller's Stadium at the Tulsa fairgrounds to the new Oneok Field in downtown Tulsa this afternoon.

On hand to help set the plate were Mayor Taylor, Drillers' owner Chuck Lamson, Tulsa Stadium Trust Chairman Stan Lybarger and Chamber of Commerce President Mike Neal.

The Drillers will play their first game at the new stadium in April of next year.

Cut Backs at Tulsa City Hall

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa City Council will meet in a special session on Tuesday. The lawmakers will be discussing ways to save the city money.

With sales tax revenue shortages growing, the city is looking at a five-to-six million dollar shortfall. That will mean additions cuts and possible lay-offs and more furlough days for city workers. Workers are already off eight days this budget year with out pay.

The special session begins at 11:30 tomorrow morning. KWGS News will be there.

Furlough Protest

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) About a dozen Pardon and Parole Board employees are protesting at the state Capitol after receiving their third furlough day in as many months.

The employees held signs on the south lawn of the Capitol on Monday and waved to passing motorists.

The entire agency, which employs about 35 workers, was shut down on Monday and a recorded message at the agency headquarters said the office was closed due to state budget cuts.

Sentence for Marquis Bullock

Convicted killer Marquis Bullock

Tulsa, OK – The man convicted of killing 13-year-old Cory Baker gets life in prison WITH the possibility of parole.

That was the sentence handed down to Marquis Bullock this morning in Tulsa District Court.

He was convicted of 2007 kidnapping and murdering his girl friend's little sister. Her remains were found several months later near a paint-ball park in Sapulpa.

Where is the Water? Lake Yahola drained!

Tulsa, OK – A large portion of the two-billion gallon Lake Yahola water reservoir is Tulsa is dry ground. That is because the City-of-Tulsa is undertaking a major renovation project at the city's oldest water reservoir near Tulsa's Mohawk Park.

The $820-thousand project got underway earlier this month. Crossland Heavy Construction is the contractor and the work should take five months.

Pistol Packin' Lawmaker

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Lawmaker gets OK to bring gun to state Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A retired state trooper who now serves in the statehouse says he occasionally carries his gun to the Capitol after he received threatening phone calls at home.

Oklahoma law prohibits people even those with valid concealed handgun licenses from entering state buildings while armed. However, exceptions are in place for active and retired law enforcement officers, like Rep. Mike Christian, a Republican from Oklahoma City.

Afghanistan Bound

Stillwater, OK – Soldiers, family gather for deployment ceremony

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) About 60 Oklahoma Army National Guard soldiers and their families gathered in Stillwater for a deployment ceremony.

The soldiers with the 1-45th Agribusiness Development Team will spend about a year in Afghanistan helping the natives learn to better manage their crops and farm.
