Tulsa, OK – Another budget proposal is in the works between the Mayor's office and the Fraternal Order of Police. It is expected the mayor's office will give the package to the FOP by noon of tomorrow. The plan will reduce the number of police lay-offs but is not expected to totally eliminate them.
On Friday, the 155 Tulsa Police Officers were given notice they would be laid-off in seven days, unless the city and the union come to terms on wage concessions.
Oklahoma City, OK – Muslim group wants meeting with Inhofe
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations wants to meet with Sen. Jim Inhofe over comments he made in support of government profiling of Muslims.
CAIR-OK Executive Director Razi Hashmi made the request Friday. Hashmi says it's disturbing to hear a U.S. senator suggest that entire religious and ethnic groups should automatically be considered terror suspects.
Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced today he has accepted the resignation of Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer and appointed Charles W. "Chuck" Jordan, former Tulsa County Deputy Sheriff and former Tulsa Police officer, as the interim police chief.
"I greatly appreciate Chief Palmer's service to the City of Tulsa and admire his commitment to the department," Bartlett said. "This has been one of the most difficult periods in the city's financial history."
Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer submitted his resignation after it was requested late morning by Mayor Bartlett. Palmer says he had offered his resignation at the beginning of the Bartlett Administration, but was told at that time it was not desired. Today, Mayor Bartlett and Chief of Staff Terry Simonson requested the resignation.
Pryor, OK – No injuries are reported as a fire causes heavy damage to a section of downtown Pryor. The blaze broke out overnight at the Boomerang Caf and spread to other downtown businesses and a vacant building.
Pryor Police say they have no reports of any injuries associated with the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
