OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jari Askins has been named to an administrative position at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
OU President David Boren announced Wednesday that Askins will serve as associate provost for external relations. She'll work to inform residents about the services provided at medical center in Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A common cold medication that contains the key ingredient for making methamphetamine would be available only by prescription under legislation approved by an Oklahoma House committee.
The House Public Safety Committee voted 13-4 for the measure Wednesday and sent it to the full House for a vote.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma senator who's sponsoring a bill to limit protests at funerals says he doesn't think a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing a fundamentalist church to protest outside military funerals will affect his bill.
The court ruled 8-1 Wednesday that the First Amendment protects Westboro Baptist Church members who have held anti-gay protests at funerals.
