Oologah, OK – Limbs of boy with meningococcal disease amputated
TULSA, Okla. (AP) The grandfather of an Oologah-Talala student who contracted meningococcal disease earlier this month says the six-year-old has undergone surgery to amputate his arms and legs.
Rockie Mitchell says doctors operated on Jeremiah Mitchell on Wednesday. Rockie Mitchell says the child also doesn't have any blood circulating in his chin and his left cheek up to his eye, which will require more surgery.
Washington, D.C. – Senate Republicans hold up jobless benefits
WASHINGTON (AP) U.S. Senate Republicans are blocking speedy passage of a stopgap bill to extend jobless benefits, saying its $9 billion cost should not be added to the national debt.
The clash comes less than a month after Republicans shied away from a similar battle that led to an interruption in unemployment benefits eligibility for some people and a two-day furlough for some Transportation Department employees.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal appeals court has affirmed a lower court ruling that granted a new trial to an Oklahoma death row inmate.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday Lonnie Richie's first-degree murder conviction had to be overturned because the jury wasn't instructed that it could have considered a second-degree depraved-mind murder verdict.
Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa City Council formalized its investigation into Mayoral Chief of Staff Terry Simonson. The council met in an executive session Thursday afternoon to work out the details. Being investigated is whether Simonson, knowingly misled the city council over the use of a federal grant.
Oklahoma City, OK – cammers impersonate Census workers in Okla. City
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) U.S. Census officials in Oklahoma City are warning of scammers passing out bogus forms that ask for Social Security numbers.
Census office manager Sidna Madden says six Oklahoma County residents have reported finding the forms on their doorsteps. Instructions say to fill out the forms and return them to an Oklahoma City address.
Madden says one person filled out the form and mailed it.
Oklahoma City, OK – Report says DHS failed to care for young victims
TULSA, Okla. (AP) A report filed in connection with a lawsuit against the state Department of Human Services says DHS failed to care for children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
The report was filed Wednesday in Tulsa in a federal class-action lawsuit that calls for reform of Oklahoma's child welfare system. It was prepared by consultant Peg McCartt Hess for New York-based Children's Rights.
