Tulsa, OK – A state revenue shortfall will have a dramatic impact on Oklahoma's largest school district, according to Dr. Keith Ballard, superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa will celebrate and recognize the pioneers and innovators of the community at the 2nd annual Tulsey Awards.

With an online nomination and voting process, local entrepreneurs have the opportunity to be nominated in ten categories including: Civic, Emerging, Entertainment, Franchise, Green, Interactive, Legend, Serial, Young and the new category for 2009, Restaurateur. All entrepreneurs nominated in the public voting process will automatically be entered into the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

Tulsa, OK – Oneok drops lawsuit against Twitter

TULSA, Okla. (AP) One day after natural gas distributor Oneok Inc. sued social networking site Twitter for trademark infringement, the company is dropping the lawsuit.

Oneok spokeswoman Megan Washbourne said Wednesday the issue has been resolved.

Oneok filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Tulsa, saying San Francisco-based Twitter wrongly allowed an anonymous customer the user name "ONEOK." Washbourne says that account since has been transferred to Oneok.

Oklahoma City, OK – Health officials want lower infant deaths

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma health officials are looking for new ways to improve the infant mortality rates in the state, particularly among African-Americans.

The Oklahoma State Health Department introduced a new statewide initiative and a Web site aimed at lowering the number of infant deaths. "Preparing for a Lifetime: It's Everyone's Responsibility" was featured at the Southwest Region Healthy Start Conference, which concluded Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa City Council will take initial action on Thursday dealing with accepting federal stimulus funds to hire additional police officers.

But, some councilors are deeply concerned about the strings attached to accepting the money. The city would have to pay for the 18-additional officers in the fourth year.

The councilors want to know where that money would come from prior to signing off on any such agreement.

Oklahoma City, OK – Declining revenue forces 5 percent cut

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Declining revenue is forcing state officials to order a 5 percent across-the-board cut to state agencies for the second consecutive month.

State Treasurer Scott Meacham said Tuesday that state revenue collections for August came in below last year's collections and the official estimate. Meacham says the lower revenue reflects lower energy prices and the effects of the nationwide recession on Oklahoma's economy.

Tulsa, OK – Tighter security, no congregating outside the stands, i-d checks, and higher ticket prices Those are consequences of the near-riot at the Washington-East Central football game last Friday night.

At an education service center briefing, Tulsa superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard outlined changes being made because of the Friday fracas.

Other crackdowns that may be coming include moving some games to Saturday and pre-selling tickets to the games.
