Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Okla. Co. judge to allow televised trial

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An Oklahoma County judge will allow the trial of a pharmacist charged with first-degree murder to be televised.

District Judge Tammy Bass LeSure ruled Thursday she will allow cameras inside her courtroom for the murder trial of 58-year-old Jerome Ersland.

Attorneys for several media outlets had argued in court filings the hearing should be open because of the tremendous publicity the case has generated.

Tulsa, OK – An announcement could come as early as tomorrow about the three remaining laid-off Tulsa police officers rejoining the force. Fraternal Order of Police President Phil Evans KWGS News that the FOP is close to a deal. He declined to give details.

Evans says the FOP membership also voted last night not to grant the city any additional concessions. Some city councilors had asked officers not to take home squad cars outside of the city limits.

The city's Larry Hood says the city will sell surplus cars, trucks, P-C's, other electronics as well as some confiscated items seized by police.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Lawmaker rips raises to DHS officials

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A state lawmaker is criticizing the Department of Human Services for giving pay raises to administrators as the agency cuts senior nutrition programs.

Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore says 29 of the top 36 administrators at the agency received raises in the past year. They ranged between $135 per month to an additional $1,894 per month.

The pay raises totaled $16,380 per month and $196,560 per year.

Tulsa, OK – More athletes declared ineligible at Tulsa school

TULSA, Okla. (AP) More than 40 students at Booker T. Washington High School have been declared athletically ineligible.

Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Keith Ballard said Wednesday the school's principal has been reassigned.

Last week, the district imposed sanctions against the school's athletic department after an internal investigation found that six student athletes were ineligible because of transfer and recruiting violations.

Oklahoma City, OK – Seniors hold nutrition rally

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Hundreds of seniors are at the state Capitol to express their frustration over cuts to nutrition programs for the elderly.

The Department of Human Services has cut $7.4 million from senior nutrition programs to offset declining state revenues. The reduction means fewer congregate meals and home-delivered meals.

Oklahoma City, OK – We have the latest on the Oklahoma State Budget.

The revenue numbers continue to trend downward. Governor Henry would still like to hold off until the regular legislative session before dipping into the rainy day fund.

But, for the first time, the Governor is hinting he may not be able to deal with Oklahoma's cash crisis. He says the state will need to dip into the rainy day savings account soon.

He admitted to reporters the budget strain is increasing on state agencies and may need to be addressed before February.
