Tulsa, OK – Ben Henneke, 95, president emeritus of The University of Tulsa, passed away on November 13. A celebration of his life and work was held in Sharp Chapel on November 20.
Dr. Henneke is the reason that KWGS exists. In the late forties, he was well-known as the host of "Going to College" which toured Oklahoma and neighboring states. This quiz show, heard over KVOO and KWGS, provided a four-year TU scholarship to the winner.
Guymon, OK – Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews in the Panhandle report slick and snow packed roads in Texas and Cimarron Counties. ODOT crews are out clearing and sanding/salting bridges and roadways as needed. While there are currently no roads closed, conditions are poor and motorists are asked to drive cautiously.
Tulsa, OK – Mayor Kathy Taylor today applauded the efforts of a business development team, including members of the City's staff and the local community, who worked to attract a new grocery store to the former Albertons location at Pine Street and Peoria Avenue. Local businessman and owner Antonio Perez announced today that Gateway Market is set to open in mid-January.
Tulsa, OK – Colleagues, It is with great sadness that I inform you that TU President Emeritus Ben Henneke passed away on Friday evening, November 13. Ben was a powerful force in the evolution of TU, having served the university in numerous capacities for nearly eight decades. He truly has been a statesman for the university, and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he influenced as a teacher and mentor.
