Washington, D.C. – The E-P-A is delaying,by two months, implementation of its new tighter air quality standards. It is feared when those rules go into effect; Tulsa will be out of compliance and will be placed on the so-called "Dirty Air List". It had been expected those rules would become effective this month.
Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Public School district becomes the latest to remove X-wave playground equipment. This follows the death of a Wyandotte girl last week on similar equipment. Tulsa had one of the X-waves at the Zarrow International School. It was removed this morning, before students arrived.
Owasso removed one a X-Wave apparatus from one of its schools yesterday.
Enid, Okla. – ENID, Okla. (AP) A proposed $20 million bond issue for downtown development in Enid has failed in a close vote.
Unofficial returns show voters rejected the plan by fewer than 150 votes 4,023 to 3,892.
The proposed bonds were to be matched with $20 million from the city to redevelop the downtown business district. The projects were to include renovating Mark Price Arena, expanding the Cherokee Strip Conference Center and building a new events center.
Tulsa, OK – It is called "Operation Triple Beam". The U-S Marshal Service's Chad Hunt calls it an anti-gang initiative by local, state and federal law enforcers.
The multi-jurisdictional anti-gang operation led to scores of drug and narcotics arrests in Tulsa. Tulsa Police Gangs Task Force Supervisor Sean Larkin says 163-people were arrested. 46-illegal weapons were taken off the streets. Additional joint operations are planned.
McAlester, Okla. – McALESTER, Okla. (AP) An inmate who escaped from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester has been arrested in Tulsa.
Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Dwayne Smith Jr. was captured without incident at a Tulsa motel about 7:40 p.m. Monday.
Prison Deputy Warden Rick Moham said Smith was discovered missing during an inmate count around 6:30 a.m. Monday. Moham says officials believe Smith went around the back of one of the housing units and apparently met someone who picked him up on the road.
Tulsa, OK – Today, members of the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) at two American Airlines bargaining units have voted to reject tentative contract agreements with the airline reached in May, while a third unit has voted to ratify the agreement. In a large turnout, 10,251 eligible TWU members cast ballots out of a possible 12,800.
