Tulsa, OK – There were 161 housing starts reported in metro Tulsa during the month of April, according to information released today by the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa. This total was relatively flat compared to the previous month (165 starts), and 40 percent less than starts reported in April 2010. Total starts year-to-date are 591, which is 35 percent behind the same period in 2010, according to permit-tracking service New Orders Weekly.
Drumright, OK – Okla man electrocuted while trying to steal copper
DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (AP) Police say a Cushing man was electrocuted as he tried to steal copper near a transformer in Drumright.
Assistant police chief Bill Lyon told the Stillwater NewsPress that according to a witness, 18-year-old Cody Holland had one hand on a copper ground wire with a negative charge when he fell onto the transformer that had a positive charge.
Tulsa, OK – PSO seeks $17.4 million to recover ice storm costs
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Public Service Company of Oklahoma wants the Corporation Commission to let it recover $17.4 million in costs associated with an ice storm that knocked out power to more than 68,000 customers in southwestern Oklahoma.
PSO has reached a tentative agreement with the commission's staff, the Attorney General's Office and consumer groups to recover the costs. The agreement will be outlined before an administrative law judge on Thursday.
Oklahoma City, OK – Okla treasurer says state revenues hit milestone
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State Treasurer Ken Miller says Oklahoma's revenue collections have reached a milestone.
Miller says the state's revenue collections for the past 12 months topped $10 billion for the first time in almost two years. He's called a news conference for Thursday morning at the state Capitol to discuss what that number means for Oklahoma's economy.
Tulsa, OK – The jobless rate in the Tulsa metro area dropped to 5.6% in April. This marks the second month of declining unemployment. John Carpenter of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says this means that about 20,000 people in the area are unemployed. April's figures are down 1% from March's 6.6% unemployment.
