Tulsa, OK – DNA confirms a man's link to the stabbing death of a Tulsa woman in 2003. Police say DNA taken from Luis Lara-Martinez has been confirmed to match DNA found on the body of Alisha Wright. Martinez was shot and killed by police when he pulled a gun on officers who were trying to arrest him on an unrelated warrant four months after Wright's body was found.
Turley, OK – Crews extinguish oil tank fire in NE Oklahoma
TULSA, Okla. (AP) Fire crews have extinguished an oil tank fire in Tulsa County.
Authorities say firefighters were alerted about 3 p.m. Wednesday of the blaze just west of U.S. 75 in the northern part of the county.
Three employees who were at the site stepped away before the fire started and weren't hurt, but a truck was engulfed by flames. Emergency Medical Services Authority spokesman Chris Stevens says there were no other reports of injuries.
Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma governor signs 2 abortion bills
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Republican Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a pair of bills intended to further restrict abortion in Oklahoma.
Flanked by more than 30 lawmakers, Fallin on Wednesday signed a bill that makes it a felony crime for doctors to perform abortions after a woman reaches 20 weeks of pregnancy. The legislation is called the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" and is based on the premise that a fetus can experience pain after 20 weeks.
Broken Arrow, OK – Okla. officials favor exemption for pet kangaroo
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) City councilors in a Tulsa suburb are in favor of an exotic animal ordinance exemption that would allow a resident to keep her red kangaroo within city limits.
The Broken Arrow City Council discussed the exemption for the partially paralyzed animal named Irwin during its Tuesday meeting. Councilors unanimously voted to put the new language on the next meeting agenda for adoption.
Cushing, OK – 4-year-old autistic Okla. boy found dead in pond
CUSHING, Okla. (AP) Police say a missing 4-year-old autistic boy has been found dead in a pond at a Cushing park.
Cushing Police Chief Terry Brannon says officers received a 911 call around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday that Blake Murrell was missing. Brannon say officers determined that Blake was last seen near Memorial Park and the search effort was concentrated there.
