Methamphetamine Registry

Oklahoma City, OK – ndividuals convicted of methamphetamine crimes would be required to register with the state under legislation approved by the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

The meth offender registry would be similar to the existing sex offender registry.

Shocker: Jones to Play for Shock

Tulsa, OK – The WNBA's Tulsa Shock announced at a news conference Wednesday that it has signed former Olympian Marion Jones as a free agent. Jones, who announced last fall that she was training for a comeback in the WNBA, attended the University of North Carolina on a basketball scholarship and helped lead the team to a 1994 NCAA Championship.

The 34-year-old Jones, a 5'10 guard, went through an individual workout with the Tulsa Shock Saturday in Tulsa, and accepted an offer to join the team in the days following.

Alzheimer's On Oklahoma Increase

Oklahoma City, OK – Report: Alzheimer's disease rising in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Alzheimer's Association is reporting an increasing number of cases of the debilitating disease in Oklahoma.

The association's report released Tuesday says about 74,000 Oklahomans have the disease and more than 96,000 are expected to have it by 2025. The expected increase is largely due to the aging of the baby boomer population.

Another Apartment Fire

Tulsa, OK –
For the second time in less than a week, Tulsa fire fighters have had to deal with a multi-alarm apartment fire. The latest was a two alarm fire today at the "Sierra Pointe" apartments near Highway 169 and 14th street. No one was seriously injured.

Last Friday, fire-fighters battled a three alarm fire at the London Square apartments near 59th and South Lewis.

State Revenue Beats Projection

Oklahoma City, OK – State revenue collections in February exceeded the official
estimate for the first time since December 2008, but fell short of prior year collections for the same month, State Treasurer Scott Meacham announced today.

Preliminary reports show General Revenue Fund collections in February are $220.6
million. That amount is:
$17.3 million or 7.3 percent below the prior year; but,
$0.8 million or 0.4 percent above the estimate.

Laid-Off Officers

Tulsa, OK – The city council and the administration are squabbling over the laid-off police officers. Councilors want to know IF officers had to be laid-off before the city could get permission to re-purpose a federal grant. Councilor Roscoe Turner is suggesting a grand jury investigation.

Oklahoma Strip Searches

Oklahoma City, OK – High court lets stand ruling on Okla. strip search

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A federal appeals court ruling that a strip search of a woman in Le Flore County violated her constitutional rights is being allowed to stand.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined without comment to hear an appeal of the ruling that Lorri Myers' rights were violated by the search.
