Muskogee, OK – Father of man accused in mall shooting arrested

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) Muskogee police have arrested the father of man who is believed to be the gunman in a shooting at Arrowhead Mall that killed a teenager and wounded five others.

District Attorney Larry Moore said Monday that 38-year-old Donald Fowler was charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the April 10 shooting that killed 17-year-old Jerrod Reed.

State Will Sue

Oklahoma City, OK –
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) House Speaker Chris Benge and Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee plan a lawsuit challenging a federal health care law recently passed by Congress.

The Republican legislative leaders said Tuesday they will challenge the constitutionality of the legislation that requires citizens to purchase health care insurance.

Tulsa Club Fire

The Tulsa Club is located at 117 E. 5th, in downtown Tulsa.

Tulsa, OK – It has happened again.

For the second time in a week a fire has been reported in the long closed and dilapidated Tulsa Club downtown. Tulsa Fire Department Spokesman Bill French says the latest fire was this morning about 8:45.

French says it is believed the fire was started by homeless people. The city has declared the building a nuisance but is having trouble getting the out-of-state owner to address the problems.

Teacher Retirement Incentive

Tulsa, OK – An effort to reduce the number of lay-offs is underway in the Tulsa Public Schools. A retirement incentive fund has been created by philanthropic groups, but Superintendent Doctor Keith Ballard says the million dollars must be matched.

Without efforts to get older teachers to retire, younger teachers with less tenure would be laid-off because of state budget cuts.

Budget Cuts Ahead

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. fire marshal says cuts could affect cases

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's fire marshal says budget cuts have led to cutbacks that could affect homicide cases and arson investigations.

Fire Marshal Robert Doke says the agency may need up to 72 hours to respond to a suspicious fire or arson that results in a fatality. Until last week an investigator would respond to such fires within 48 hours.
