Guilty Plea in BA Rape Case

Tulsa, OK – Broken Arrow man pleads guilty to child rape


TULSA, Okla. (AP) A 32-year-old Broken Arrow man has pleaded guilty to charges of raping, kidnapping and lewd molestation of a 5-year-old girl.

Douglas Polk Jr. pleaded guilty Friday in Tulsa to seven felonies and four misdemeanors. He pleaded no contest to a charge of domestic violence.

The victim was 5 when she disappeared from her home in Broken Arrow in September 2007. She was later found naked and walking along a road several miles from her home.

Tulsa, OK – Petition organizers have turned in over 76-hundred signatures seeking a grand jury investigation into the Skiatook schools. The district came under fire when an auditor's report showed over $750,000 wasted on over prized supplies. The school superintendent has been suspended but not terminated.

Tulsa Sales Tax Revenue UP

Tulsa, OK – For the first time in 14 months, Tulsa's sales tax collections increased compared to the same period last year, although collections since the beginning of the fiscal year are still below last year's totals.

The report the City received from the Oklahoma Tax Commission said that sales tax collections from mid-March to mid-April totaled $16,682,891, a 3.7 percent increase over the $16,085,995 collected for the same period in 2009

Police Seek Your Help

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Police are asking anyone who believes they or their child may have had inappropriate contact with Robert Yerton Junior to contact authorities. Detectives ask people with information to please call the Child Crisis Unit at 669-6504.

Yerton is the Skelly assistant Principal charged with multiple counts of child molestation. Reportedly, pornography was found on both his home and school computers.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa police seek driver who fled deadly crash

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Police in Tulsa are looking for the driver of a sport utility vehicle who left the scene of a collision that killed a 41-year-old woman.

Police say the woman was making a left turn with a green light about 2:45 a.m. Friday when her car was hit in the driver's side. Witnesses told officers the driver of the SUV got out, looked around, then got back into the SUV and tried to drive away.

The vehicle then stalled and the man left on foot.

Oologah, OK – Judge refuses to reinstate suspended Okla. student

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A federal judge is refusing to order the Oologah-Talala school district to reinstate a suspended eighth-grader.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Frizzell ruled Thursday that 14-year-old Elora Connelly will not be "irreparably harmed" if she isn't allowed to attend classes before the end of the school year.

Zoo Review

Tulsa, OK – A report from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) highlighting maintenance and staffing needs at Tulsa's Zoo re-affirms the urgency to transition the Zoo to private governance with additional funding as soon as possible, according to Phil Lakin, CEO of the Tulsa Community Foundation (TCF). Lakin was tapped last fall to lead a City and Tulsa Zoo Friends task force in the examination of new governance and financial restructuring for the Zoo.
